Ban Frenzy Reaches New Heights in the UK
By HeatherThe other day I came across an interesting news clip on MSNBC...that just begged for comment...They banned guns, they banned knives - now a shopping center in England has banned yet another item which it claims presents a threat to it's shoppers...the dreaded and menacing hooded sweatshirt. No, I'm not kidding..."I think it's marvelous," Bluewater shopper Jill Hopper said of the initiative this week.
"It's such a pleasant atmosphere here; you don't want a whole group of hoodies coming around - it's great they're taking these kids on," the 46-year-old said.
Isn't it amazing that this dimbulb, just like most of the anti-gun crowd, is simply thrilled that someone has made a merely superficial change by banning an item which is merely symbolic of the problem...and done so while doing absolutely nothing to combat that actual problem of violence and gang mentality which causes the problem in the first place.
Really, why not just ban people who have arms from entering the shopping center...arms can be very menacing, especially when they have hands at the end.
In reality, the biggest problem cited with "hoodies" is that wearers can use them to conceal their faces from surveillance cameras (the UK leads the world with over 4 million closed circuit cameras in use) and they actually have targeted almost all headwear except when it is part of "religious attire".
At the end of the article though the author, probably unwittingly, cites the REAL problem which needs to be confronted if they really wish to combat the youth violence issue.
Many "antisocials" are under 18 and know they can't be prosecuted as harshly as adults. And, while the combination of loud music, graffiti, brawling, drunkenness, and petty theft have serious affects on communities, few single crimes carry heavy punishments.
Wow. Actually punish criminals. That would never work, now would it?
Heather!
